    Default Aerial base differences?

Hi there, Ive just replaced my aerial and the original on only had one cable (coaxil) coming out of it, but second had one ive just fitted has coaxil and a smaller one too. It still fits in the standard connector in the roof lining but the signal is now rubbish. Did the cables change at some point with the power being separated out or something?

Wondered if I just run switched live to the smaller cable it will improved signal?

    Many thanks.

what year/model is your car and what model stereo do you have..? There are a few different versions and they are also different for the signums..

on one of my cars we switched it from a cdc40 to a cd70 and also changed the aerial bases. the wiring that goes through the roof had three wires and this is the norm according to vauxhall. we did need to switch around two of the aerial wires just before the base though in order to pick up an fm stations other than r1

Hi there. Mine is a pre-facelift sxi cdti 150. It had a cd30 but now has the cdc40 opera. Everything worked fine with the stereo change over. It was just the aerial base with the new (used one) one has a seperate smaller cable, looks like power. On the blue plastic connector that goes into the roof lining, the connectors appear to be the same, an it sort of has two parts, one above the other. The original one just had the coaxil, but the new one has the smaller cable going into the blue connector above the coaxil one, kind of like a a figure of eight. I don't know if both aerial bases are amplified, but the original had the power though the coaxil and the new one has it separated out.

    Many thanks.

I'm hoping it is just going to be a live to feed the amplified base, so running a switched ignition live will sort it. I'd rather someone confirmed though before I try it.

I've just spent half an hour out at my at car playing. I cut the smaller cable going into the blue connector above the rear seats for the aerial and connected a live feed - the signal significantly improved. It seems that the lower end stereos still have the amplified base, but the power for the aerial base is taken differently somehow throught the coaxil cable and the better stereos have the 12v feed seperately out. All you need to do is add a live feed to the small wire coming from the aerial base and the amplifier in the base gets power and you get a better signal.

    Cheers.

yes the single wire is for the amplified base, my astra coupe turbo had this set up, my vec SRi (face lift) doesn't but the aerial base & mast looks identical...
