    Default HID Legalities

I've done a quick search and all the information seems a bit dated, whether it is relevant now or not I don't know.

Basically, I'm looking at fitting HIDs to improve the shocking standard lights. After having AFLs fitted to my Astra I really miss the light output and now long journeys exhaust me after straining over the steering wheel like a OAP.

BUT.. I have also had troubles with HIDs in the past, failing MOT tests due to the light scatter being out of spec.

I would like to fit HIDs to the standard headlights but don't want to fail an MOT for having non projector headlights or headlight washers. Have many people had an MOT test failed for this? Obviously it depends on MOT tester and their discretion (although it shouldn't). Also have many people with HIDS been pulled by the police or flashed by other drivers?

I'm hoping for positive feedback, because I want to buy HIDS but don't want to be bitten on the backside if I do.

    Cheers

    Matt

Hothatch and Critch, are they full headlight replacement units or are you using standard units with HID bulbs and ballast?

I'm new to this and am considering this as an upgrade for my new Vectra C that I'm collecting tomorrow.

The Vectra has projector lenses which is suitable for HIDs and alot of us on here have them including myself. However, new MOT changes taking effect from May mean all cars with HIDs lights installed must have headlight washer and a self leveling system. All can be retro fitted. How deep are your pockets?

Exactly that Niall, up until now the only snags I've personally encountered are to do with the light pattern, if they take the changes seriously it can prove very expensive to undo vauxhalls awesome botch job with OEM lights. Washers not too hard I'd imagine but self leveling would be a serious challenge in both labour and cash.

To do the self leveling you need to get a set of xenon headlights with ballast and motors. Change the wiring loom to the lights and wire in front and rear level sensors. A few on her have done it. Do a search.

Should have been in affect from. 1st jan but vosa gave testing stations some time to get used to it. So should of been an advisory until 1st April

But speaking to a lot of MOT stations an taking my car to be be viewed before I took the plunge all of them said aslong as beam pattern correct and not blue their fine
