    Default 2.0t exhaust manifold gasket

Hey does anyone know the easiest way to change the gasket between the engine & exhaust manifold, I think it's leaking as I never changed it when I took the manifold off, can I remove it with out taking the turbo completely off? It sounds like a diesel when under load

I doubt your oil and water lines will flex enough for you and your downpipe will not move for that either.. best to drop off the turbo and also replace the gasket between that and manifold..

i have the gasket part numbers if you need them

check for escaping gas first though... with the engine running hold a lit ciggy or a joss stick above the manifold to see if the smoke is being blown around by escaping exhaust gas etc

thats a great idea, is the part number - 12786717? so if i take the turbo off the exhaust manifold i wont have to take the fluid pipes off? im going to unhook the exhaust system & support it with stands for a little bit of play. its really rattley at the exhaust manifold it can only be me not changing the gasket thats causing it to blow

escaping exhaust gas under load can make an awful sound which believe it or not can sound like a rattle... i mentioned this in your other thread, you would have been better off sticking to one thread..

the turbo to manifold gasket is: 90537716

the manifold to engine block gasket is: 12786717

Iv orders the gasket for Saturday, less than £1!!! There on the Internet for £10! I couldn't belive it, we're going to try and slip the gasket in behind the manifold once we loosen off the nuts!

Well me & 1 of my mechanic mates just spent the last 2hours taking the exhaust nuts off 3 came off with the studs but we prised the manifold back & managed to slip the old gasket out! So I didn't have to take the turbo off! Yes! Result! All we took off was the rear coolant pipe which ****ed out everywhere but I don't mind I'll get some coolant from Vx when I pick the new gasket up tomorrow, the old gasket is worn & black soot at the o/s end of the gasket so were thinking it's been that that's been the noise, oh & there was a heat Sheild between the turbo & manifold, total disaster with the bottom nut, so ended up bending it out the way lol
