Default How do you clear the service reminder light

Evertime I switch the ignition in my car on the service light appears (little car with spanner in front of it), the car's been serviced but the place that did it obviously haven't reset the light

sure it's some sort of combination of holding down the reset button for the odometer and switching the ignition on/off

    can anyone help?

sit in the car, hold down the odometer reset button and turn the ignition key to posn 2.. do not let go of the reset button until the display changes.. about 10 to 30 seconds..

the display will then change to the reset mileage..

    Problem not solved!

    Here's what's happening:

Everytime I put the key in to No.2 position the bit to the left where the Service light is lights up, start the car and it disapears, but surely it shouldn't be there until the car is due another service IIRC in another 20,000 miles? presumably whoever serviced it last didn't reset this thing

    So...

If there's no key in the ignition and I hold down the odometer button the light on the left side comes up with the little picture of the car and spanner with 18,000 underneath it, I'm assuming it means one of two things

    A. That was to indicate a service was to be done at 18,000 miles

    Or

    B. 18,000 miles to my next service is due? (like a counter?)

If I do your trick GSi 3.2, Hold down button, put key to No.2 position and continue to hold the button down, nothing happens, I still get the above everytime I turn my key to no.2 positiong

    Here's what I'm looking at

So to summarise, everytime I turn my key to No.2 Pos that little service light on the left lights up, when you turn the car on it dissapears and if I hold the odometer button down with no keys in it lights up with 18,000 under it

The car with a spanner is a fault on the car m8, needs to be read with Tech 2 to find out what it is.

The service symbol is an oil can with the spanner

    As above,

what you have is a 'non-serious' redundant fault code logged on the ecu's memory..This symbol ( as long as it goes out when the car is started) just shows that some error HAS occured but the car is happy to carry on working..You could either clear them by detaching the battery for 15 mins, or leave them as it's nothing to worry about..

I'd only take it to the dealers if there was that symbol PERMANENTLY lit when the engine was running..

The 3.2 V6 has a 20,000 mile service schedule.. how long has it been since they serviced yours??..

It may well be on eco-service then, rather than eco-flex.. ..

AS long as the fault light continues to blink out then i'd not worry too much at the mo..

On some of the newer Vauxhalls this won't work. You have to press the trip reset button on the dash and also press the brake pedal as well before switching on the ignition - keep brake and trip pressed for 10 to 12 seconds - then the service interval light will be reset.
