    Default Well, wasn't expecting that!!

following on from my thread in the trouble shooting section, I've had a call from my dad, who's just had a call from "diesel specialists" who were inspecting the car...

    Symptoms:
    • Juddery idle
    • Blue smoke
    • Chemical burning smell

    Diagnosis:
    failing DMF?!
+ 2 glow plugs are screwed

I'm baffled as to how they've come to this conclusion as I've never heard of any of these symptoms being related to a DMF and I've had none of the customary DMF failure symptoms (rattle etc..).

I can't understand how 2 more glow plugs could have died when they were only tested 3 days ago and 2 faulty ones replaced then... This make a grand total of 8 glow plugs in 2 months (am I the only one who sees a problem here?).

Unfortunately I can't question the findings or request they investigate the glow plug issues as my Dad arranged the inspection meaning I have no contact details (I don't even know where the place is) and has taken it upon himself to give the OK for them to carry out the work. (He's also offered to pay for it so I can't grumble too much).

Glow plugs wouldn't effect it after start as they're only there to get it going on cold mornings. They didn't say DPF did they...?

    I doubt it's the DMF.
Mine was truly knackered and I never had problems with idle, smoke or burning smells and I don't know of anyone here who has either.
You need a diesel specialist, not diesel muppets.
    In the meantime...

I've had a full run down from my old man.

The garage have said that the DMF has gone and has caused the injector timing to go out which in turn is causing a misfire (aka juddering) & smoke.

Car will be back with me tonight so we shall see if a new DMF, clutch, resetting the injection timing and a couple of glow plugs has resolved things.
