    Default Auto-headlights on Pre-face Vec

    Evening Lads and Ladies

Gonna be a bit confusing this, hopefully you'll get the idea

I've been playing with *cough* vauxcom this evening after checking for DTC's and decided to run a few measuring checks. One of which was the BC's live info, and behold! The information for the rain/light sensor is present and correct, it was measuring when the wipers were active then i spotted the next bit... Rain/Light sensor - Day but got me thinking.... so i put my hand over the rain sensor, and it switched to Night.

This puts my mind in a bit of Disbelief that a pre-face can't have Auto-headlights if it's got the sensor present to do it?

Has anyone else explored the auto-headlight function on their pre-face and had any joy?

if you had spare modules to play with its worth a shot will suspect you'll need a bcm at least, not seen it done yet on a half-can model car

its a matter of making old work with new.... was changed approx 2004.5 model year. I've done some work with SRiDAN to get anti-hijack working and that involved a slight alteration to the wiring on the BCM.

Yep, mine is half-can, just seems odd that it knows there's a light sensor there, just no auto switch

    I NEEEED auto lights...

What is your plan to try and get them going on an old preface? surely there is more to it than a switch lol?

Yup, decided. I now need them again.

What is the actual difference between half CAN bus and full CAN bus? is half of the old prefacelifts hard wired and half CAN bus controlled?

Or is it to do with the bandwidth of the CAN bus?

Excuse the ignorance lol, I've never really delved into it I thought the CAN bus was just a messaging protocol between all the controllers and modules in the car

you are right, CAN stands for Controller Area Networking. Main difference is that the radio was using ISO connectors whereas full can is using the newer type plug...

there are differences between years though with very slight wiring changes to the BCM & REC that I know off, plus the modules are newer design incorporating newer features...

With a google search on this site (very handy feature! well done to whoever put that in) eventually found this old quote

Another one is the headliught switch. In a full-CAN car it's a CanBus module, in a half-CAN it's not.

    Simples - sort of! lol
