Default Intermittant Throttle Loss (No EML)

I am a car novice so take it easy on me!

In the last few months I have been getting intermittent throttle loss whilst driving along. The power only comes back if I take my foot off the pedal and then reapply again. I have looked out for any EML but nothing appears.

I have read through a lot of the existing threads and they mainly indicate the car going in to limp mode, but this is not the case.

Is is worth me paying the £90+ at Vauxhall for them to run a diagnostic check on it, even though a fault does not show on the dashboard?

Other posts suggest to clean the EGR Valve; throttle body , boost sensor and replace plugs. My level of competence of mechanics suggests I better not do any of this. Does anybody know of a garage/mechanic in the north west that could? I am reluctant to go to a dealer knowing how much they charge!

My car is a 54 plate 1.9 SRi CDTi [150]. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Hiya mate, ive got the 1.9 (150) in my 05 plate saab 93 and i to am getting what i would describe as intermittent throttle loss, sometimes i accelerate and throttle response is almost instant and other times i accelerate and the throttle response seems slack and the power seems to be holding back some what, and when it doesnt accelerate as it should i to take my foot off and re-apply and it picks up alot better, so far ive swap tested boost controller, cleaned maf sensor, renewed map sensor, renewed both air and fuel filterCleaned and ended up blanking egr valve, renewed all vac pipes, even though all this helped the engine i still get the annoying prob, ive turned my attention back to the throttle body after reading in more depth on here, i previously removed and cleaned it and attempted to re solder the joints inside as also mentioned on here, dont know if the solder is still the prob but like some guys on here im going to remove the butterfly plate to see if that improves it at all and go from there

It could be the accelerator peddle. Had the same probs as been described. you will need a tech 2 to be able to see if the car is registering full throttle when then the pedal is pressed. Mine was just showing partial throttle most of the time despite the pedal being floored.

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

My thoughts too point to the pedal position sensor.

Ive tested the throttle pedal on the laptop and the volts rose and fell as it should while pressing, i only tested it though just sat there with ignition on dont know if a fault with it would only appear while driving who knows, having said that (and im pretty sure its not all in my head) but when throttle response is almost instant and accelerates as it should the throttle pedal seems to feel different, it seems to feel more firm if you know what i mean

The throttle positioning sensor in the throttle body in the engine is the culprit - leave the pedal just now. There is a how 2 in resolving the issue yourself with a soldering iron:

I would seriously consider this before parting with £90 (bit steap even for a dealer) for a diagnostic.

    Bingo !!

First port of call, done quite a few of these with 90% success.

If it don't solve the problem be prepared, it could be an ecu fault.
