First Thoughts......

Hello All,

I am considering buying a CDTI 150 SRI Veccy and went to test drive this yesterday.

The superb thing was that the dealership let me drive it on my own rather than have a salesman sat next to me which was great. It was a nice experience to test drive a car alone.

Bearing in mind, I am currently running a BMW 523ise Auto with 153k on the clock I was not sure what to expect in terms of the vectra.

1. It was quick once you got past 2k revs. Under this, it was quite lethargic
2. Lots of road noise ( compared to what I am used to) from the back end of the car.
3. I reset the computer and went on a 12 mile drive - lots of "spirited" driving and the car returned 45mpg according to the computer!?
4. Seemed much better built than previous vauxhalls I have driven.
5. Jumping back into my beemer to go home made me realise just how smooth the BMW is (ride wise) to the Vec.

I am now in two minds about the car - I think it is a little expensive - does anyone have a view?

I wont be trading the BMW in as I will sell that privateley.

How will adding a CR1 change the performance? I was impressed by the diesel but was not blown away if you see what I mean. Given that this was a 150bhp, I would not be interested in a 120bhp at all.

I can't see the link, so have no idea how much, colour, etc!

However... we went from a VW Touareg to a CDTI 150 last month... it was the almost-base Exclusive version we went for, but we got change from £13k. Would have got change from £11k if we bought one of their pre-reg 0 mile stock 120's - but like you, the 120 would be too little for us.

The Exclusive is a nice car, but no computer

EDIT: can see the link now. Seems a bit pricey, but it is from a dealer!

Go for the 150 and stick a box on it

Excellent car, well mine was until THIS but it is (or was) the best car i have had for years

I'm not trying to put you off, but seeing as that is a 54 plate and you thinking it's a big sluggish, I'd have the dealer check the swirl valve and then take it for another test drive.

IMO a standard 150bhp CDTi should be more than a match for your 523 beemer. What you have to consider is the 150 does have a certain amount of turbo lag whereas your normally aspirated beemer doesn't. Also the rev range is a lot lower in the diesel.

For a more refined diesel have a look at the 3.0 V6 CDTi. Although they obviously cost more to purchase and are becoming thinner on the ground. Alternatively, turn up at one of the many meets around the country and I'm sure someone will let you have a go in a boxed up 150.

I think the "sluggish" is down to my expectations - going from a 6 pot Petrol to a 4 pot diesel Turbo.

What kind of money do people think it is worth?
