If you got the alternator from a motor factors type place, they usually pay for labour costs when supplying a new alternator under the terms of the warranty. Check with them first, but they should cover it.

It depends on the source of the alternator
If it was used, then buyer beware
However if it was an exchange then it should last at least 12 months
As above, contact the supplier (if it was indeed an exchange)

    New??!!
Blimey that must have been expensive, normally it is an exchange (deposit) even for a new one
Take a look at the back of the receipt for the warranty terms
If there are no details for labour costs in order to return for replacement, don't do anything and discuss when they are next open

I had such a failure a long time ago
I had the car taken to their premises and they phoned me when they opened, "er, see your car is here, take it the alternator we supplied has failed"
They completed all the work themselves and returned it to me that evening, plus they issued a replacement receipt for that date
