Default My gearbox - is there something wrong?

I'm having real trouble with up-shifting from 2nd to 3rd on my '05 SRi 120. It almost feels like there is an obstruction in the box as if the gears clash with each other and sometimes there is a nasty jolt from the gear leaver that is really aggravating my wrist. I have taken it to the dealer I bought it from and a random Vx dealer in my area and both say the gear box is normal. Is it normal? Anyway I’ve got a drive with a mechanic at the weekend, so I will see what he says but I’m not happy with it – and the response I got from Vx “customer care” – try another dealer.

I had a new gearbox fitted mate. It is NOT normal.

Keep pushing them. It is a sh*t gearbox in the Vectra's IMO.

Well I'm booked into a 3rd dealer on Thursday. I have to pop in to that dealer tonight antway (to pick up a few bits) so I will talk to the service lady face to face and try and get her to come for a quick spin in the car

Quick update - the gears are now crunching from 2nd to 3rd

The service managers reply on the phone today was "Christ!". Indeed. You missed that when I took it the first time and you told me there was nothing wrong with it. I have been assured it will be looked at on Monday. Not really full of confidence. But I have my back up plan with my local Vx dealer on Sat.

    Well know here's a thing...
    I've got the 05 sri 2.2.
Noticed oil over the outside of the box,so i'm lucky here that i've a cracking Vx dealership. Took her in for a replacement seal, they confirmed that would be the problem, seems that while she was sitting in the dealer show room when new the seal may have dried out.
Ok so far, then just as i was expecting my car to be returned, they call me up to say, sorry she needs a fly wheel!!!
Now i'm no expert but that's a part i usually expect to last the life of the car!!
It seems they are replacing it before it packs up,as i've had no bite or shift problems.
Why do that you ask, well on this forum go to the search box and type in fly wheel....you'll see what i mean.
It seems this is a weak part on the veccys, especially the dual mass fly wheel fitted to the diesels, not to sure if that's fitted to mine.
Obviously a credit to my dealer doing prevention work, but none-the-less a surprise.
Now it sounds as if yours has broken up mate, and with the gears not being engaged/disengaged properly you'll get the crunching your describing.
Let us know if thats what they come back with,by the time you've crunched a bit more tho, they may well just change the box.
The stealers know about this part...hence the reply "christ"!

The 2.2 doesn't have a DMF.. just the Diesels.. it's used to absorb drive line vibration..

It sounds like sithompson just needs to get a 'box swap...

Think you'll find it does, just the 1.8 that doesn't.
