    Vehicle : Astra GTC VXR

    Trim : VXR

    Engine : 2.0t

    Year : 2013

Default 255 or 280. Pros and cons.

As title says, what's the pros and cons between the 2.
Yes I know that road tax on most 280's is £450 a year but looking on different car sale sites some of them are listing cars upto 07 plates as 255 variants.

Also is it deffo worth upgrading from the GSi to a VXR, with the money I'll lose on the GSi (including buying the car nearly £5k spent) would it put a bigger smile on my face.
Only other upgrade other than the Veccie was gonna be a Astra VXR but it's more in the Veccies side.

280hp why not apart from early ones with cheaper tax. Consumption is the same but more torque and hp. Vxr is just the newer gsi so just aswell move on

have a test drive Dave and you will notice the difference between your 3.2 and a VXR ..
if you go for the cheaper tax band and get a remap it will map up the same

Have a test drive in them mate, the vec dont really matter so much as you just get a remap and both will be at 300ish bhp with 400ishlbs, also have a test drive in the astra, i have been in vecs for 12 years so obv went for the vec vxr, now got an astra Burg and it is way more fun to drive. If you do a lot of motorway driving then vec 100% but if you spend more time off the motorway then the astra is WAY more Fun.

For a while people have said the 255 and the 280 map the same, but I know at least 3 Veccy VXR's 255 versions that have been mapped and made between 280-290 BHP not 300 BHP

Also there are a few things that determine whether you will get good mapping figures as not all of them map the same ...

There are also some 56 plates that are 280 versions and 07 plates that are 255 versions mate

Well I do have some time to make my mind up as I don't like having cars on finance. Waiting to see if I get any money back from my old loan company for PPI insurance (looking at get £3k back hopefully), also I won't let the GSi go for silly money and then I just need to top funds up.
Don't really use the motorway as getting to and from work is done by a combo of main roads then country lanes but always been quite partial to large cars starting with Cavaliers and a Audi A4.
Insurance prices between the 2 are roughly the same Veccie being about £30-£40 dearer but then when you look at the buying prices between the Veccie and the Astra you seem to get more value with the Veccie, lower mileaged Veccies compared to high mileaged Astras.

Will deffo have to start going to have a look at some motors and I think it's gonna be popular Arden blue as following one for quite awhile the other day the colours grown on me a hell of a lot.

LOL Maf, you are totally right, thats why i put ish at the ends . The vec is a very capable machine and very comfy i did find the seats a bit hard and my bum went numb quite quick on long trips.

I had the 255 model which was pushing 252 bhp and 290lbs, it moved when it wanted to and was very civilized to drive. On the other hand the Astra ive got is 266bhp with 278lbs and is a total animal to drive and just so much fun all the time.

As for money for value, well agree you will prob get a lot more for your money with the vec, mine was quite low spec but had inbuilt bluetooth,DAB radio, xenons,19" alloys, cruise control and phone cradle.

The astra Burg was quite low spec compared to the vec, Burg didnt even have cruise control.

I was thinking of the same silver as the GSi or a black one but then following the Arden one no one would mistake it for a base model would they.

Well from what I understand from the guy I bought the GSi off of all VXR's are not equipped like early Veccies, Vauxhall being Vauxhall saving on costs.
