    Vehicle : Vectra Estate

    Trim : SRI

    Engine : CDTI 150 (Z19 DTH)

    Year : 2008

    Mileage : 100k

    Default 3.0 Diesel advice Pls.

Chaps - so looking at new car options now that my car has been written off..

I defo want a Vec C estate diesel.. One of the CDTI's I think but wouldnt rule out a 2.2 DTI..

    Anyway - come across this:
    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...51sx?logcode=p

With the 3.0 Diesel - is there a common issue that could cause the water loss overnight?? Just thinking could be a good buy if easy fix?

    Cheers

Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.6 16v

    Year : 2003

Water loss when driving or when stood still?

If it loosing when driving. Like mine did less than 2 miles was head gasket.
And unless you can do it yourself expect a bill of over 1300.

Mine has a small external leak now. I suspect egr cooler gasket.

To be fair that's pretty good price.

I paid 1950 for mine last year needing a head gasket and that had 102 on the clock.

You ideally need to pressure test cooling system to confirm where it's going.

If your handy with spanners I could talk you through taking heads off.
Or their is a lot of pics in the sticky my me in the 3.0 specific section

Small external coolant leaks are difficult to source on diesels
The main issue is the block remains hot and so the coolant evaporates
Hence why most are found overnight or if the car is left for a long time to allow to cool

I would be more concerned if the coolant leak is INTERNAL
This would be confirmed by having to add coolant at regular intervals, with no external loss

Mine went through this for a few weeks, but suddenly stopped
I had to add about 100ml (in a 50:50 mix) on each occasion, and went through about 1/3 of a 1 litre bottle of coolant

As above, start with a sniff test
However if the liners and/or head gaskets have failed you may as well open your wallet and shake...

    edit :
I see the price is £1285
Ask the seller to perform a sniff test and report back
Even if you spend £1000 on repair to the coolant system that is about its residual value

Also why is the rear wiper arm missing?
Ask the seller if it actually functions or is dead
That will need to be replaced
    I'd offer £1100 as a result...
