Default How was she able to run?

After the dreaded EML had come on a few times sending me into limp mode I decided I would give a few bits a clean/investigate. Replaced the vacuum hoses which were severely perished and which instantly gave back the missing power below 2000rpm.
Constant fault code of Throttle actuator malfunction and Throttle feedback circuit malfunction.

Took the throttle body off to inspect
    Pretty clogged up

    Inlet

Cleaned them up and resoldered the joints on the PCB as it was off anyway

Thought I would do the EGR at the same time as well

All parts cleaned and put back on with new gaskets.

    Finally the boost sensor
    Before

    After

It's amazing she kept going with all that crap in it. I got the car 5 years ago with a 1 owner full dealer service history at 80000 miles, now done 146000 and all servicing done by me, 2004 1.9 CDTI Elite estate. No history of anything having ever been done with regard to EGR, manifold, throttle body etc. Well worth doing, car feels great now with smooth power and great low down torque and only cost £6 for the new gaskets and £3.99 for a tin of carb cleaner and a bit of time.

There are 3 torx screws to undo and it comes apart. The soot build up in between the two parts is what causes the egr to stop working as it restricts the solenoid .

Ive never seen anything that bad, you need to drive it a bit harder to keep that from building up.

Unless the previous owner drove like an OAP lol.

I'll let the wife know you said she drives like an oap.

it's her car and she only uses it to potter around driving our daughter to all of her dance lessons and swimming etc. I only use it very occasionally as I use my passat.
