    Question DPF confusion.

    I'm a little confused.

Does my Vec, a 2008 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi hatch have a DPF?

I've read on here that all estates and Signums have them.

I'm hoping that mine doesn't have one as they seem more trouble than they're worth but why are they fitted to some models and not others?

    Well that's good.

Is there any reason why they're not fitted to hatches, surely the stuff that comes out of the exhaust is the same whatever shape the car is?

DPF fitted or not is down to tax classification apparently. Anyway, to be sure, check the sticker on the inside of the drivers door pillar - 1.00 to 1.30 no dpf, 0.50 dpf fitted.

It comes down to emissions. The autos, estates and signums put out too much to meet the euro 4 limits when they were made as they were either too heavy or had auto gearboxes. They needed the DPF's to lower the CO2 levels and meet the requirements.

It's all a load of horse**** to be honest - you don't see people going out and asking for them to be fitted because they're worried about the environment...

Signums and Estates seemed to be built in Germany, I think that is the only common thread really.
