Default Jerky engine 30 seconds after starting.

Hi everyone, done a quick search but didnt really find any posts with same symptoms. 2003 1.8 LS petrol starts first time every time but then after about 30 seconds of starting the engine revs dip and raise and if i have pulled away the car jerks ridiculously as if i'm a new driver that doesnt know about clutch control. this lasts only for approx 10 seconds then after that perfect driving. No warning lights or fault codes present so am pretty clueless to what it is. first thought was maybe coil packs or ignition module????

oops hit the worng button there...

I would start with cleaning the throttle body out and changing the fuel filter.. Does it do this when its a warm start or just cold starts?

    Have another Thanks button hit.

I too think fuel problem, but maybe also outside chance of problem Battery.

Power Assist Steering takes a lot of amps, which is why I am thinking Battery not recovered from starting the engine and alternator cannot supply enough power to charge battery and PAS with voltage drop.

If you keep the revs down (ie below 3000rpm) until you're past the time that it normally does it, does that stop it happening?
Another thing to try - when you start the engine, let it idle until the revs drop from just over 1000 to under 1000 (about 10 seconds or so usually). Then try driving off.
My 1.8 used to have a slightly jerky phase after cold start in exactly the same place on the road (probably about 30 seconds after starting) - but letting it idle and/or keeping the revs down it's not done it for ages. I put it down to spark plugs by the way - and will be changing them at some point soon. Going to pass 100,000 miles on my way home tonight!
