    Default Power Steering Fluid Change

    Hi All,

Power Steering on my car (53 1.8) has been quite notchy so I'm going to replace the fluid. I've located the bottle but could someone let me know:

    1) Best way to drain? - Take it out froom the bottle or just unplug the return pipe?

    2) WHich oil to use - I know I should be using the green mineral stuff, but even at halfrauds they sell a PAS & CHS 11? Not sure what to use and since dealer is closed today, they won't be much help.

    3) How to Bleed - I think i remember reading that its a case of starting the car 3/4 times, and then turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock 3/4 times? Could someone confirm?

    Thanks

Take pipe of and allow to drain out top up.

Then do lock to lock several times holding at each lock for a second or 2.

Keif saw your thread - but unfortunately didn't get much info from it

Well i checked in the Halfords book instore and it says:

1.8 2002-2005 Use Power Steering Fluid
1.8 2005-2008 Use Central Hydraulic Fluid

Any ideas? Vx closed so can't get it from them. Also whats the capacity - need to know how many bottles to buy!

    Thanks!

In case its of any use to anyone...

The halfords Power Steering Fluid is actually Red (hence not the stuff you need). The Central Hydraullic System is Green (and the stuff you need!).
