    Default re swirl valves

do the cheap fix with the washers on my swirl valves, but the ****** keeps faling off one of them, as i understand it they just inturupt air flow at low revs (turning a 16 valve into a 12 valve so to speak), will the diesel run without them?was thinking of just removing the butterfly ,so its allways open ,before i do this has anybody else done it ? did it cause any rough running,or other problems??
    thanks in advance
    steve
ps. have just checked the other threds regarding glueing in open possision, i reall was thinking of removing the butterfly bit completly, so there is no chance of anything breaking up and doing any eng damage

I can sort of remember one thread whereby someone removed them but cannot remember if it were here or on a BMW forum.

As you said, you have looked at some threads about glueing them open. I for one have done this (1,2 & 4). Car runs fine and even better now that I have disconnected the EGR connector. Mine are glued in the open position but I guess if you wanted to trial which positions work best for your driving, you could try different positions (ooh err) using a wee bit of gaffer tape to temp hold them in the position you want to trial them at.
I must admit it was a little disconcerting as I watched the superglue run into the gaps but was fine and it has sealed the gas leak also.

thank,s but was a little bit concerned that as they are intakes did not want anything solid getting sucked in and damaging the eng, though well if glueing them open (& no ill effects)next step is to remove completly, and then seal top hole up.but no threds seem to have gone that far

Harvey Smith has gone to the leangths of modifying a used manifold to remove flaps / plug & weld the holes... mine have been bonded into the open position & done over 10k like this with no ill effect
