Default CDTi 150 - Abit laggy?

My Dad says his 06 CDTi 150 Elite Estate has started to feel abit laggy.

We were out this afternoon in it and yeah in a way it does feel abit gutless low down, but the turbo seems to be OK as you can feel it pull when it kicks in.

He also had a couple of random occasions a few weeks ago when under acceleration, quite a large cloud of white smoke came from the exhaust.....I put that down to the fact that he (In a monent of madness) had put supermarket fuel in just before that, he said he was in the red and was there so stuck some in!!!(Pillock)

I've been out in the car with him, and on my own and have never seen this happen or made it happen, and it seems to be running ok, but not sure if it's lacking low down really as i dont drive it that often.

It is on 82k miles, is serviced every year on the dot, the coolant never drops, oil is fine.

any ideas what could be the issue here?

    Thanks in advance

    Default

Few small things you could do yourself

    - EGR Valve, Remove this, clean it out (give it a ****** good cleean, as they can get filthy)
    - Throttle body (same as above, give it a good clean)
    - The sensor to the side of the EGR (Boost sensor) only 1 bolt, Give that a good clean too. How2 Link
    - Run a good fuel additive through it aswell (i use the millers one) and not supermarket fuel.

there are some other How2s in the how 2 section, but for some reason i cannot see the relavent ones (im going blind, im sure)

The smoke could have been from a DPF Regen (if this car is fitted with one)

Never had a problem with Supermarket diesel and we do 30k+ between my wife and I on it.
I would run some BG 244 cleaner through it, IMHO much better than Millers by miles.

Also are the journeys all short or is there any long motorway driving involved.
Modern Diesels do not like short journeys all the time which can cause them to basically clog up.
I would do as recommended by Dane-10 but use BG 244 instead of Millers

what cured my very bad flat spot was diesel and air filter. But if its been service recently then cant see it needing them.

Also have a look to make sure the swirl bar hasnt come of, also check for an oily residue around the swirl valves

Thanks Dane...possibly do the EGR and TB at some point...Boost Sensor was done not too long back, might do it again just to see what it's like.

I should have mentioned in the thread that i put some addative through it, Wynns Injector Cleaner....and he only uses Shell from now on.

Yeah it has a DPF, but surely if it was a regen, it would have smoked all the time, and also the coil light should flash on the dah when it's doing a regen, and my Dad said no light came on.

Thanks merikiito...I'll have a look at that stuff....and the jouneys are not all that short really, although it doesnt get much motorway work or long runs tbh

Thanks Neill...Service wasnt too long ago so all should be well on that front...I'll have a look at swirl bar over weekend.

Vauxhall took the decision to remove the light during a regen because people kept bringing their car back because they thought something was wrong. What was wrong was the fact that they did not read the manual!

    Oh thats marvellous!!

Mind you, half of the F***witts on the road don't know the highway code, so reading their actual cars manual would be a hard thing to do.

So no cars have the coil light flashing during the regen then?

Some older ones might but I think there was a software update which turned the light off.
