    Default Best 1st DSLR????

Really wanting to get into photography as I enjoy editing on my computer, mainly do video though.

It's a minefield out there. Just wondering what is best as a first DSLR? Needs to have a lens though. My budget is small at around £300 but I don't mind buying second hand or off eBay. I've been looking at canon d1000's, looks like a lot of bang for my buck! I very very nearly bought a canon 550d last week but thought I would get some advice first.....

    Your thoughts......

I've got the 550d, very good camera but I've still not mastered it.

I'm a Canon 550D owner too, and it's my first DSLR.

Excellent bit of kit, hopefully now i;m getting things sorted in my mind how to take good images, i'll start to get the type of quality picture I want.

(track day and BTCC coming up in the next two weekends)

As for kit. Go for the highest megapixels you can afford. You can aways crop picture of your subject doesn;t fill the frame and still have a good quality shot.

    Happy Hunting.

I've heard that its not just about pixels and that a camera with a good sensor but not as many pixels, will take a better picture than a camera with a poor sensor and more pixels?!?! Dunno how true this is???

It's more about the lens and the sensor size than the number of pixels.

if we're going into the Canon vs Nikon debate

I started with a Canon 350D, now I have a Canon 40D as it was a nice compromise between some of the more pro features and a decent price - only reason I went with Canon over Nikon is my dad has a Canon and more money than me so I can steal his lenses
