Default CDTi 120 timing marks & water pump

    Hi All,
As suspected my water pump bearing is shot, 1st time I've attempted a cambelt change always been flush to leave it to the pros, but just cant find the money for a garage visit, hence taking the plung, I followed the 150 how 2 which has helped loads, although as its not a giude for the 120 i see there are some areas which are diffrent.

1 - timming mark on crank lined up, cam pulley will not line up no matter how many times i turn ovar by hand?

made my own marks b4 touching tensioner

2 - water pump was a pig to remove as very tight behind cam pulley?
(dont want to force new pump in same as removal as it will be wrecked)

3 - Once i was happy tht i would be replacing new belt correctly i realized as water pump was so bad has the belt jumped a few teeth explaning why oem timming marks would not line up

Any help ppl i would be very greatful

The crank pulley marks are not meant to line up as these are not the timing marks!!!

If it was running ok beforehand, get a tub of tip-ex out an make your own marks. I'd put 2 on each pulley

As i understand it when replacing the water pump on the 120, the cam pulley needs to be unbolted to gain access. Most times you would slacken the cam pulley bolt before removing the cam belt. As has been said, the marks on the pulleys are NOT all timing marks, you need to get the cam locking and aligning tool to set the timing correctly, as there are no marks to line up on the crank pulley.

Thanks for your replies, I have already marked crank and cam, as my original thought was as long as pulleys are in same pos b4 removal i will be fine, and it turned over by hand without any mech lock up, can the z19dt slip a couple off teeth without causing any damage? thts my main consern that i maybe need to reset the timing if damaged water pump had allowed timing to be out of syc?

its quite possible that the timing is fine and she not slip any teeth, but i would like to be 100% sure, is there a way to check this without a locking tool?

Gonna use old belt to try n help crack off cam pulley for water pump refit

thanks again ppl im less stressed after seing ur posts confirming crank marks are not timing marks so i will use my own that were added before belt removal

If theres no lock up and it sounded fine/running smooth then it will be fine. you'd know if it had slipped teeth

Is there a key on the end of the cam for the sprocket to loacte into? Ive replaced several belts on petrols in the past but I do remember on Diesel Astra of my mates that didnt have a key on the cam/pully and needed some special tools to time it with, he didnt have them needles to say it ended up in the bin.

I'd release the tensioner again and line up your marks, then get the belt put on again properly maing sure the marks are lining up and reset the tensioner
