Just a quick one chaps, I fitted a egr blanking plate today, does it matter what way it goes on? I mean with the gasket on, off? Above the gasket or below the gasket? Am I just being a gimp here? Don't anwser that one? Lol

you mean the 'square 1' or the 'oval 1'?
The oval one
The original gasket seals the flexible pipe to the body of the EGR - so whichever side you put it on the other side will not be sealed - ideally you should have two one each side of the blanker - when I did mine I made the blanking plate out of copper and softened it so that it would seal to both sides - not sure how critical a perfect seal is - I suppose you could use a liquid gasket on either side to make sure.
mines a alloy plate and so is soft anyway, i have kept the seal on the the bottom as it is kind of lipped to fit the pipe below and placed the plate on the top of it and so far a good seal but was wondering if i have done it the right way?
i give the egr a kind of good clean also while off
Can someone tell me what the difference is between the plates a solid plate and one with a hole in the centre both of them oval?
I've just seen the other one on eBay and now it has got me wondering if I've ordered the right one.
The one without the hole might throw up an EML one with still lets air through but reduces the probability of blockage.
Hi, Thanks for the thanks - you could always drill a 10mm hole in the centre of the plate you have. As already said the hole prevents you getting fault lights on your dash - although some members have fitted ones w/o a hole and they have not bought up any faults.
There is also a 'Fiat' type gasket that has 3 x 6mm holes in it that is supposed to be an improvement on the one hole type.
I would be tempted to try your blank plate w/o a hole first and see what happens - if a fault comes up you need to have the EGR mapped out (expensive) - or you can then modify your plate by drilling a hole and refitting.
