    Default Brakes and calipers

Hi.. could having to bleed your brakes every 8ish weeks mean there's something wrong with a caliper? I asked a garage (over the phone) and they said yes its probably seized/sticking you will need a new one but you HAVE to change both sides at the same time.. he quoted £260 ..

    1) Is this correct, cant I just have the bad one replaced?
    2) Is it always down to a caliper when you get air in brakes alot (no loss of brake fluid, all pads/discs etc are fine)
    3) when engine is off and stationary I can hear a creak if I press brakes
    4) Is it really £260 ????

    Sorry lots of questions here

I'm no expert on brakes, but I really can't imagine you would need both callipers changing. Think they are trying it on. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

Fronts or rears? The rears can stick but I not heard anything about the fronts sticking. Also you can get refurbed ones from VX at a good price

You can def change one at a time. However, As for air getting in, but no loss of fluid, It may well be a seal on the caliper but it could also be an internal leak in the master or slave cylinder. I think i'd be popping it in to somewhere that can do a proper diagnostics on it

You get the calipers from the dealers , just ask for a refurbished calipers , but before you buy anything get it looked at by a decent garage not Kwik fit etc

It sounds to me like whoever changed the brakes has maybe forced the piston back into the caliper and flipped a seal. It's unusual for the vec but definitely possible.
