Default 2.0 dti EML, P0400 and hunting

Sorry to re-post this, but the title explains the problem better.

I originally had my car hunting on tick over on a few occasions, but now it has turned into an EML and P400 fault code.

Sometimes when I start the car, the spanner symbol pops up for about 5-6 seconds and then goes away and the car drives fine. Sometimes it hunts between 500 and 800 rpm, but OK if I drive it. Earlier today I was driving it and had a loss of power, pulled in, the engine was hunting and then got the EML spanner light come on. The only fault is P400 (P0400) which I have found to be a possible EGR valve fault, but the engine hunting is not meant to be a symptom of this fault. Any ideas

OK. I took the EGR valve off today and gave it a good clean. I took the grey plastic cover off to check the workings and to clean it (broke a b****y clip off while doing it).

I have to say that it wasn't really that dirty, nothing compared to my wife's Astra EGR valve I cleaned a while ago.

Anyway, after putting the lot back together, the EML didn't come on and the car seems to run a bit better (or it may be in my imagination ) I'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks. Finger crossed it is OK.

The EGR was pretty clean and free. I did give it a good clean anyway. I don't think the EGR valve is getting stuck, so it could be an electrical fault with it then if I get the error again?

Would the hunting be due to the EGR valve? or is this another problem I am getting?

    Cheers Matt.

If the electronics have an intermittent fault on them, would this make my engine hunt every so often, or is that nothing to do with it? Cheers

Throttle hunting is indicative of a tps fault . do you have the tps sensor on the manifold or on the throttle pedal itself .
If on the manifold then pull the vacuum hose of the diagfram above the egr and close off the hose connection at both ends . thats the cheap way of solving the hunting .
The other way is to buy a new upper manifold complete with both the tps and boost sensor ,Vx wont sell the tps sensor on its own .
They want about £280 for this manifold complete ,but they can be found for less on some of the online dealers like autovaux or 247 spares ,
the part no for the manifold with the sensors is 2446 0302 enter that into the search engine and see what comes up .

Also have a look at the attached link for some additional info about tps

Hi Bob. Thanks for the info.

The hunting only happens every couple of weeks or so...weird!

On top of my manifold is a part which looks exactly like the picture you posted in a previous thread:

Is the tps on this part?

You also said "pull the vacuum hose of the diagfram above the egr and close off the hose connection at both ends". Are you referring to the hose connected to the round solenoid on the front of the part in the picture.

Also, today the car had the EML illuminated for the first ten seconds after I started it and then went off again. I tried it again and had the code scanner connected while the light was on, no code recorded. The light went out and I scanned again, no code recorded! What could this be?

    Thanks again

Sorted the EML when first starting.

Tested the glow plugs, one was open circuit. Replaced it, no EML now.

Still need to sort the hunting, although it hasn't done it for a few days now!!!
