    Why did they destroke the 2.2 to 2.0 and add a turbo? Wouldn't it of been better to add a turbo to the 2.2 or am I just being silly?

    your are being silly bud lol the 2.2 engine is a GM engine and was built to replace the 2.0 echo tec engines that used to be in the vectra b
    the 2.0 Turbo engine is a Saab designed engine
    VXR IS FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR THRILLS !

    No, Beat is right in comparing the 2.2 and 2.0 - the 2.0 is indeed heavilly based on the 2.2, although the changes were done by Saab rather than Vauxhall/Opel or GM US. Just be grateful that Saab didn't stop at destroking it and adding the turbo - they also sorted out all the reliability issues at the same time.

    It is the same block and very similar head on the 2litre compared to the 2.2 as you first thought and rebellion confirmed. Id guess the reason it was de stroked as such is because turbo cars typically run a much lower compression ratio, and other than a pikey cylinder head spacer, the easiest way to do that to an existing design is to reduce the stroke.

    Same block, de-stroked and a far better sand cast superior head opposed to lost foam as fitted to the 2.2 although they are interchangeable and the NET's inlet and Zorst manifolds bolt straight on.

    The same block is used with pretty much the same set up as the 2.0T but in SC form in the stated and is also used by Alfa, Fiat and even a Subaru.
