    Default Mobile Phone Signal Booster

Currently on the Orange network and tied to a contract, so swapping networks is not an option.

I get a signal with the phone by the window, but as soon as i move more than a few feet inside, the signal is lost.

Does anyone one know of, or have any experience of a mobile phone signal booster which could possibly sort me out?

Found a few through google, but they are blindinly expensive for home use.

    Cheers
    Aidi

You can buy them off eBay. I had one for O2 for a while. It comes with a tv style aerial you point at your nearest network transmitter and then a little broadband hub style box that transmits the signal in Your home.

Just be aware that they are technically illegal as you need a license to transmit on the appropriate frequency. Handsets are exempt and so would a network supplied transmitter (a Vodafone SureSignal, for example). Otherwise you should have a license to use it. Low likelihood of getting caught unless you interfere with a neighbours tv signal or something.

Vodafone is the only network I am aware of that sells them aimed at home users (and therefore a reasonable price). Other networks do them for businesses but they cost a fortune because they are designed to handle multiple calls.

    Thanks mate,

Did find something similar to the link you posted, but as said it needs a licence which kinda put me off a bit.

Chances of being caught are slim, so i need to weigh up the cost to see if it would pay off

we had a simular problem with the Three network ..but after a couple of calls to their indian call centre ,they promised to get a man up the transmitter and boost the signal .. probibly meant that they were upgrading in our area ..got a 2months free usuage ,then all was fine after the work was done .
Surely Aidi Orange cant bind you to a contract if they can give you a service ??

How long have you had the contract? I got out of one after a week because of no signal. Call them and try it.

To cut a long story short, Just renewed my contract with Orange - Was originally going to go to Vodafone - but they could not find me when they did a credit check for the contract (live on an army base and not on an electrol roll) the credit check was declined... (spoke to Lloyds about my credit history - they offered me £25K loan - go figure)

Vodafone will now not do anything for 180 days untill they can re-credit check me or i can fax them a copy of my credit file. I aint jumping through hoops like that for the sake of a mobile signal. I would rather spend the £100-130 to get the booster and be done with it.

I also get a nice 25% discount with Orange

Aidi, search for a T-mobile signal, there both under one owner now so you can use both networks under your existing tariff. My T-mobile phone automatically goes to Orange at no cost if the T-mobile signal is lost.
