Sorry, I believe strongly the government or at least certain of its representatives are 100% to blame for this and the no doubt many other incidents that will follow. Advising people to store petrol at home was always going to cause incidents like this because people don't realise how dangerous petrol is and the risks involved.

Having said that, apparently she was trying to pour it into a jug so she could pour it into her daughters car because her fuel can didn't have a nozzle on it, next to an oven that was on, that in itself is probably worthy of a Darwin award given the end result. I still blame the government for issuing the official advice in the first place, this wouldn't have happened without that "advice".

i agree, the advice was ridiculously stupid, no arguments there.

apparently by law you can only buy and store petrol in a metal jerry can or those green tanks we all see.

both of which have spouts so wtf was this woman's petrol in?

stupid advice heeded by stupid people and this is the outcome

Apparently it was in a plastic green petrol can (the standard 5 litre jobby I suppose) but she'd lost the spout for it, I know I had one that I lost the spout for but I used to have two so just swapped the spout over if I needed to (I don't actually own a petrol can at all these days). They still have sealing lids the spout is normally attached to the side by a plastic clip if not in use.

She was decanting it in a glass jug in the kitchen, whilst also cooking the tea in the kitchen.

Whilst I am sorry someone has indeed been hurt, it does go to show the shear stupidity and ignorance of people.

I was surprised that she wasnt also smoking a cigarette?

it has to be stored in special containers marked petrol, that alone should tell you how dangerous it is!

maybe she was using a lighter to see if there was anything left in the tank lol
