    Default My little experiment

OK been trying a little experiment on myself, I have made a conscious effort to reduce my average driving speeds by only 5mph overall on open roads and to remain closer to 30mph than I have in a long time and monitor the results.
Drive for the road conditions avoid harsh braking acceleration and go flow much more than before.

OK tank to tank brim to brim

    before 47.9mpg
    now 53.8mpg

I am truly shocked, the car is pleased, my wallet more so

I try and stick to the speed limit at all times. I pass through 8 speed cameras on the way to work So am grateful for cruise control.

I don't find to much of a difference, unless I am booting it up to the speed limits. in around town I stick rigidly to the speed limits/road conditions. on the open road I drive at about 65-75 depending on what type of road I am on. I have tried driving like my grandadand just getting on with it, and never really notice a difference woth bothering about.

I did a couple of weeks of trying to keep the revs between 1000rpm and 2000rpm and driving at 65mph rather than 70mph on dual carriageways, and got a huge improvement in economy.

Makes for a quite tiring drive though - and you have to be quite patient because you can't pull out quickly at junctions and roundabouts, you have to pretend you're a large slow moving vehicle and wait for a decent gap.

I try to drive smoothly most of the time (I have my moments) and generally stick to speed limits. Have pointed out a few times there's no law I know of says how fast or slow you have to reach that speed limit, ie 3 sec or 30secs.

I have done a little experiment with aircon and how it affects my 1.8. Basically without aircon (during colder weather) i get around 38mpg commuting. With aircon on all the time I get 35mpg. I have no BC so I worked it out myself.
