Default 225/45/18 tyres for 3.0 CDTi engine'd hatch

Hi all, I need a new pair of front tyres, I have the XP2 18" alloys fitted, currently all four tyres are Falken FK452 225/45/19 95Y XL.

Do I need the 95 load index or can I have 91? Do I have to have XL or not?

I can find loads of part worns 91W that aren't XL rated but I want to do things right so would appreciate your guidance.

The car is an 06 plate 3.0 CDTi SRi hatchback, on std suspension if relevant.

Sorry if this is the wrong section.

    Thanks
    Tim

There are some serious discrepancies there

Firstly, what exactly are the tyre size?
As you mention 225/45R18 on 19" wheels; that's not possible

Next, you advise it is a SRi on standard setup
    This would be 225/45R17 tyres

If larger wheels have been fitted, then some of the front suspension components are different

As you mention 91W and 95Y this suggest you have 18" wheels
There are no issues operating 91W tyres on your car, unless it is an automatic
The automatic is heavier and XL tyres are pretty much essential
In general XL tyres are recommended on this car, as in the event you suffer a catastrophic tyre failure then the load is still not exceeded on the remaining three tyres

If you do fit 91W tyres, then fit them on the front, and keep the XL tyres on the rear

You could ask your insurance companies techinical help line, but they will probably give you the generic response "See handbook" but the VX handbook simply gives the profiles and no speed / load index
Equally, some online databases are incorrect (as an example National comes up with 91W tyres for my car with 44PSI)

    Vehicle : Ford Mustang

    Trim : GT

    Engine : 5.0 V8

    Year : 2016

    Default

    91 load index = 615kg limit

and on my signum the front axel weight was 1230kg and 2 times 615 is 1230!

i was told this was why vauxhall would not fit 19" rims to 3.0 diesels

all i know is that i went though tyre after tyre on 19's and a blow out on the m25.

so back to 18's 225/45/18 on a 95 load index...

    OP has both :
    225/45/18 tyres in title
    225/45/19 in message
Don't see how those will fit on 18" wheels and vice-versa, so needs to be confirmed by the OP as to which way round it is

No idea who told you that, but the limit is based on the total vehicle not just the front total
The load limit is based on a tyre failing and the weight then being transferred to the other three
When the limit is exceeded then other issues can occur

If I couldn't get any XL rated I'd fit 91's but my choice would be 92 or above. Hth

I'm pretty sure that there was a thread not long back that states the manual v6 signum was the only car which would get away with non-XL tyres therefore best to keep with them mate. I have just wrapped my XP2's in 235 40 18 pirelli cinturato's so an upgrade to the tyre width forlorn protection.

And yes 245 width will also fit these rims and fit onto the car.

    HTH!
