Default Over boost problems 2.2 dti

Now there seems to be a lot of talk about people having boost problems with there 2.2dti. Lots of information on vac pipes and this and that. Now if it were a vag engine then everyone would be saying check the variable vaines in turbo as there common for sticking. Now seeing my 2.2 dti is in bits and having had over boost problems I decided to remove the exhaust casing and check the vnt ring. Now as expected it was heavily clogged with carbon build up and so completely removed all components in the vnt side and cleaned up and reassembled. Will post some results when it's running again. Hopefully back together tomorrow. It's exactly the same setup used on a lot of vag engines and lots of people have had good results by doing this. They even use this turbo on some vag setups I believe.

The Alfa collective did this too, and saw good results. One actually got told they need a new turbo, but he decided to clen the VNT mechanism and it returned to normal.

Diesel soot.... it's a killer lol

well so far so good, drove her back tonight 35 miles, but only time will tell, have just a head repair too due to a bent valve so will see if my overboost returns. turbo boost certainly feels smother whilst driving though, were as before would suddenly kick in and take off, now seems to smoothly increase. with the turbo off its a very simple process, should be fairly easy in-situ as well. Remove exhaust side off turbo by undoing the 10mm nuts think there was about 8-10 around the outside, you do have to take the circlip off the actuator rod from the vacuum diaphram first, once the nuts are off crack it open gently and then the exhaust side comes away with the VNT section inside, just go carefull around the turbine cartrige, i then dismantled the vnt ring assembly - 3 torx screws and completely clean it all and refit all back together again, i used mr muscle over cleaner, the sodium hydroxide in it just melts away at the carbon build up, and rinse well after - just make sure its all dry before refitting, i blew mine off with airline.

Any further news on this? I'd be interested to see if it cures the problem altogether. This is something I might have to look at doing as my dti overboosts all the time.

Drivin like a dream so far. No limp mode and smooth acceleration. Before hand you could feel the boost suddenly kick in and take off but now it's more of a gradual increase.
