Mapped or boxed 3.0 V6

This isn't another debate into which one works best.

I'm just after some figures.

I've got the later V6 which i expect to be around the 184 standard figure, however i'm interested to know if you have a boxed or mapped diesel V6, what power/torque figures are you now putting out.

There's not much on here regarding diesel V6 tuning that i can find, so if there's any useful threads out there that you know of then please link me

I think the general consensus is map the V6 Derv. I dont think they really like the boxes

Tuning boxes are a no no. They will cause pump problems on the Z30 and Y30DT.
A re map may be the way to go, Thorney motorsport do a good map.
I have 2x ex Thames valley Police v6cdti vectras and one I think has been mapped by Thorney, it goes so much better than the other. Some TVP vectras were tuned due to the police coming from 2.8s to 3.0 diesels and finding them to slow compared to the 2.8s. I've spoken to Thorney and I think there re map adds about 30-40 bhp.

It depends on how you drive them really, I ran for about 6k with a DTUK green box on my Z30DT with no ill side effects.
If you drive sensibly the the pump IMO should be ok, if you like to drag race away from lights/standing etc and rev continuously to 5k then you will kill the pump as it will pass it's 'normal' higher rate, if you know what I mean.
If you think about how most place remap these, and how the boxes work, if the pump supplies 2400psi at 4k rpm and then once tuned it has to supply 3000psi at 4k then somewhere in the extra 600psi it is trying to supply it will pass it's limits.
Before anyone corrects me on fuel pressures, these are for illustration only.
Its like the clutch and gearbox, both have a torque rating and once you map a V6 you are going to be above it, especially the gearbox, sometimes way above it. If you drive sensibly you may never have any issues with either but use the extra power/torque all the time and you will kill both very quickly.

One thing to keep in mind, when the Z30DT does a regen, it adds more fuel, it doesn't do this by increasing fuel pressure (as far as I am aware), the ECU changes the injector timing.
If a remapper can do something like this, alongside a neglible increase in fuel pressure and an increase in boost we may find that the V6 can be quite a tunable engine.

Yeah, i've come across a box on ebay for £90... i'm so tempted, but i'ld get it mapped properly if i were to go down the route. Just saying for £90 it's tempting to just plug it in and see what a monster it's like then remove it before it breaks anything!

Either way sounds like a remap would take it out of its limits? Most of the companies i've had a quick browse on don't do a map for the 3.0 V6's, even this chap at MAS performance everyone is banging on about doesn't advertise his capabilities in that field.

Mpg said a map would take me to their abouts 200bhp on a y30dt.

Obviously could be pushed a lot more but that would be a nice safe tune.

The crd2 is capable of about 215-220bhp on this engine.
But something like 450-470nm torque

I personally feel boxes are pretty good. As a diesel will always run excessive air anyway.

Don't get me wrong a good remap is great for getting rid of dreaded dpf and egr.
And done correctly on a rolling road will give great results.

But a generic map acts pretty much same a box.
