I have a 54 plate preface and i,d like to change my rear wiper blade for a flat blade type,would i have to replace the wiper arm from a newer version vectra,to fit one

Yes they are. I needed to borrow a wiper arm puller to remove mine it was very tight, although others have managed without a puller.
