    Default Single mass flywheel conversion

    Hi peeps,

Well my DMF has gone and done the dirty on me and is rattling like a good 'un.

I really don't want to be spending out on something thats going to go again so I'm looking at a single mass flywheel conversion as the title says.

Am I going to be getting more problems with this ?

    Am i just

Car is a 2.0dti with 160k on the clock.

Could the mileage be a problem.

    Thanks.

    Chris

Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.6 16v

    Year : 2003

    Default

Their are reported problems some single conversions

Mainly being extra vibration felt whilst driving.

But this extra vibration CAN cause damage to gearbox.

Very rare but also cases of snapped crankshafts from
Single mass conversions an extra vibration damaging crank.

IMO your best just fitting a DMF

I think the 2.0DTi uses the F23. The F23 is fitted with a single mass flywheel on the Vec b on petrol engines. It might be worth your while looking to see if the 2.0dti is fitted with a single mass and if indeed its a F23. However a conversion "kit" would have to be made and it may be the case thats its just a cheap just to stick with a DMF.

millions of cars have run for millions of miles without one though!

it makes me laugh that in this modern day, we need such things like dmf's and i laugh more when i hear ppl say that if you remove the dmf, it'l **** the gearbox in?
what the hell's gone off with manufacturing then?.. are they making gearboxes weaker????

we can put 300+ bhp though it and it will last years but remove the dmf and its toast?

Cars without DMF's have other parts in the engine and pulleys that dampen out harmonic vibrations.

Cars with DMF's dont as the vibrations are dampened by the DMF.

We get cars come in at work with noisey gearboxs and 9 times out of 10 they have had single flywheel conversions fitted. Granted they dont just die over night but they do do damage.

At the end of the day if you dont want to keep a car forever then yes get one fitted and hope it doesn't kill the gearbox in the time you own it. However if you intend to keep it for a long time and do high mileage I wouldn't.
