    Default Engine rattle

Hi, I have bought a 2008 Vectra SRI and have noticed that when I turn it over there is a rattle like something is loose in the engine compartment, this has only happened a couple of times and of course I have checked it and all seems fine, the problem is not there all the time and since I have had it in the last 2 weeks has probably done it 3 times. Don't know if it has anything to do with it but when I bought it the gearbox was rebuilt due to it keep slipping out of first gear, but that is all fine now and feels great. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

great thanks for the reply, mine has done 65000 and am wondering if it would be covered on the warrantee, how much would it be costing to get the bits done? also would it be recommended to get it done asap or could i wait a little bit to see if it gets worse?

    Yes Rushy, you're correct.

All the info is in the link I posted earlier. What also went in my favour was mentioning the rattle while it was still under the 3 year Vx warranty, but typically it never did it when it was at the garage. Fortunately they made a note of it on their database.

Sweet, went to the vx dealer today and pointed out my disappointment at the situation and in under 5 mins they had agreed to pay the £792 for new chain and tensioner! also found out that when they rebuilt my gear box they forgot to re-charge my a/c so there is another 1.25 hr labour at £60.00 per hour plus the standard £90.00 diagnostic charge! Result.......... think they are now in a mahooooooooosive loss on my car now!
