    Default Steering column help please

Ive had a problem with my steering column for about a year. About 70% of the time when I turn into corners I get a knock coming through the wheel. I've had the rack and everything checked in the steering and suspension assembaly but everything is fine. I've come to the conclusion that it's coming from the steering column its self. Is there anything that can wear out or break within the column that might give this symptom?

I've heared that there is a spring somewhere in there that can snap and that is what it does feel like. You can actually hear the knock and it sounds like its coming from right behind the steering wheel.

    Any ideas? Cheers

Check the lower column to steering rack pinch bolt, they can work loose. Mine had and I just nipped it up half a turn. You can gain access to it down behind the engine.
If you had your steering checked though they may have looked at that.

As above, torque it up to 22nm(im sure thats what it is). I usually give it another wee 1/4 turn after that aswell. Done it to mine a year ago, havent had any hassle since

Thanks, do you have to use a ramp to access this? Where is the upper pinch bolt located? Can that do the same? Have you got any pictures at all?

    Cheers.

Sorry, just told you how to do a corsa lol. Engine compartment, back left hand side where the colum comes through the bulkhead. You'll see the steering knuckle, looks similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-V...item4ab5b613bd
Cant remember the size of the bolt, takes a couple of minutes

Cheers I'll have a go, do you need a ramp to do this or can it be done without?

It's all done from above. Just pop the bonnet and look down towards the rack just in front of the drivers position

This seems to have been the problem mate!! I've done what you suggested and the knocks are gone and thats been annoying me for the best part of a year!! Although it seemed to be the upper pinch bolt under the steering wheel that was loose. I gave it about a quarter of a turn, the lower one didn't seem lose. Thanks for the tip!!
