    Default Plastidip

    Hi Guys,

Thinking of doing my V Grille in and badges in Plastidip.
Anyone used it? is it really as good as they say or make out?

Failing that, It's Carbon Fibre time.
But Plastidip looks quite cool, and would certainly be different.

I've just used it to do my chrome grill on the Octi. Its very easy to use and no real prep work is required apart from cleaning the bits your spraying. It does leave them with a slightly textured finish a bit like the black bump strips you find on the bumpers if you know what I mean. Have a look at my thread here http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159513 and see what you reckon.

    Yeah that looks smart..

It's kind of a spray on thing that you can peel off again if you don't like it or stuff it up.

I found www.dipyourcar.com Obviously I won't do my entire car, but the odd accent piece would set it off quite nice. Going for the Blue and Black look. Need to ditch the chrome first. I'll get some on Wednesday, and have it done at the weekend...I'll post up some pics, and you can take a look.

Other that that it's the CF starter set from Carbonmods.co.uk or Carbon wrap which seems to be very popular. Thing is I don't want it looking like a Barry car, I want it subtle...

The Chrome stripe at the back Vectra Badge, SRI Badges, V Grille, and Griffins

Looks smart though on the Skoda Grille. Good Job.

    Matt.

PS: Are you Plastidip'ing those Alloys to make them black?

Cheers mate. Yeah its good stuff. I'm happy with the finish tbh. I was even considering doing my wheels with it but I've bought some audi RS4's now so they'll being staying silver.

Does the peeling trick work or did you take the grille out to spray it, I'm kinda hoping it does work as I don't fancy having to peel all those those badges off.

Yeah, best leave the RS4 Ali's silver..

I like the matte finish to it, I don't mind the bumpy texture to much, it'll make it look like it was meant to be that way - more OEM.

How does it stand up to the weather/stone chips also, how many coats did you use and did you have to key the surface before spraying... (sorry about all the Questions, never taken a spray can of anything to the paintwork of my car before... Nervous!)

No worries mate. I split my grill and painted the chrome separately so it was easier. There is no need key the surface, just make sure its clean and free from dust etc. I gave it 3 coats with about 40 mins between each coat. I only did mine a few weeks ago now but its holding up well no stone chips etc yet.
