On any diesel car, it is ilegal for the exhaust not to point down toward the ground, UNLESS it has a DPF fitted and therefore no black smoke (in theory) can be omitted.
???????? Standard 3.0 V6 CDTI pre-face design ((Y30DT) non DPF) comes with visible twin chrome pipes. Point straight out. Surely Vauxhall wouldn't have got away with it if it were illegal?

Ive opted to not have ym DPF removed, Not for MOT purposes, but at the moment with the warrenty situation, Last thing i want is some more ammunition for them.

After my warrenty is up....... il be removing it.

My understanding is that to be euro 4 or 5 compatible, which is DPF or D-DPF then the car can have straight pipes the same as a petrol car. All other euro 3 or older must have a pipe that points down. NB. some cars have a dummy tail pipe on show, but the exhaust proper still points down. VW use a similar look a like system on there pipe exhausts, where one pipe is a dummy pipe.

The Vectra SRi manual CDTI 150, a majority don't have a DPF and all SRI's have pipe facing straight out of the back of the car. I would lean to this being Euro 5 legislation if anything.
