coolant temp sender tells the ecu how long to heat the plugs, it can make the ecu think the engine is hot when infact its cold, r you getting a diesely white smoke on start up?

Try unplugging the coolant temp sender in the morning before you start it. If it starts quicker, then that's your problem Plug it back in once started

Have you checked your fuel lines for leaks, this used to be a sure sign of air in the system. It basically caused the engine to self bleed, not too sure if it applies to modern engines though.

Not strictly true, as being left for a long period of time could possibly cause fuel to leak and air be drawn into the system.
