Eml on after blanking egr

Afternoon all... Well I blanked my egr valve off completely today after reading varried posts from people who have done it. Some say no light on and some say light on but after fitting the blanking plate the eml on bot right corner of dash has come on, the thing is I dont understand why because the egr is still in place and plugged in. Could it be an emissioms sensor or something? I also read that someone cleaned their turbo sensor after blanking. Anyone know where its located?

Eml asside... there is a noticeable difference in response below 2500 rpm and it pulls better in high gears at low revs.

I think the ecu uses both maf sensor and map sensor to detect a pressure difference when egr opens when you blank it theres no pressure diff so it puts the eml light on, ive blanked mine the light is nowt to worry about, as for the turbo sensor i think what your describing is the map sensor(manifold absolute pressure) it located on the back of the inlet manifold to the left of the egr its got an electric plug and 1 star drive screw holdin it in,its about the size of a matchbox

Thanks for your input guys, I should have said its a 56 plate cdti150 but anyway I will have a look for the sensor and give it a clean and when you say it has to be maped out do u mean that an ecu remap is the only way to put the light off? At present Ive got a plug n play chip fitted and a re map is expensive.

Unless you drill a 6mm hole in the centre of the blanking plate!

Can you blank off the egr if you have a DPF fitted? I've read that you shouldn't but theres loads of folk on this forum with the same car and engine as mine who have. Just so you know I've got a 1.9 CDTI 150hp. EML came on a couple of weeks ago, my local garage (not vx) said it was the EGR valve. I took it off, cleaned it, replaced it, then two days later the EML light was back on!!!!!

I have a DPF on mine. I've just replaced the inlet manifold, timing belt and water pump. Cleaned the EGR, turbo boost sensor, throttle body and blanked the EGR. The difference is amazing, much smooth, pulls harder from lower down right through the rev range. eml warning is lit but covered which I can live with. Personally I can't see the point in drilling a hole in the blanking plate nomatter how small. It simply defeats the object of fitting a blanking plate which is to stop all the crap going through the EGR into the engine and causing problems.

Drilling the hole helps increases the speed the fumes go through so they dont cool as much or have time in the egr to clog it up again.

Map it out drilling a hole is pointless if I'm honest, been there & done that to absolute no avail. If you don't want to map it out, just remove the plate and run as normal. As long as there is gases passing from the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold you will always get clogging up of the valve and manifold.
