Well, assuming that it's not the wife and/or kids whining (to which the answer is to turn the radio up louder) we need to know which engine you have.
I have the z18xer engine,
Same engine as me, and it's not a noise that I have heard.
The 1st thing I would check is the air intake, airbox, MAF sensor and air feed to the engine. All these bits are plastic and subject to spliting and coming off if the clips are loose.
Another thing is how old is the battery?
The Battery has been on the car since new (2008)
The ? about the battery is in case it's not holding its charge.
The noise could be, say the heater fan, spinning up because the rev's have gone higher and the voltage has risen and now you hear the fan.
Just a thought, I have already replaced the battery in my 2008 model with a much bigger capacity one. I had a couple of starting problems before that.
Just been out and took it for a run, the engine seems a bit louder than normal and there is a definate whine. While haveing a look under the bonnet i noticed a wire that runs along the side of my airbox has been rubbing onto the auxiliary belt and had burned through the plastic and now to the bare wire, do you by any chance know what this wire is for ?
