    Default Average MPG going down....Why??

I have noticed of late that the average MPG I am getting on my 1.9 CDTi [150] is slowly going down. I am currently getting 45.5 where I used to get nearer the 50 mark on combined runs. I appreciate as cars get older they dont run as efficiently as they used to but is they anything I can be checking. I get the car serviced every year.

As with all cars the vectra,s suffer from coaking up , filters become clogged resulting in the engine having to work harder , which increases fuel consumption another pointer is dont take for granted that your filters are changed when your car is serviced , many garages will skimp on serviceing by not changing air and fuel filters but will almost certainly charge you for the pleasure .

Check the filters for yourself , check the condition of the boost sensor , and egr valve, s ,and give your engine a little treat with a fuel additive such as redex or stp , these clean out the injectors making the engine work more efficently .

Other things to check would be your hoses look for signs of splitting or perishing around intercooler and vacuum hoses , if excess air is being drawn into the engine this will increse your fuel consumption

Thanks for your reply, I regularly put a fuel additive in the tank every time I refuel. I can check about the fuel filter etc and see if that has been done. I will also check the boost sensor...
