Default Just bonded my swirl flaps open!

Decided to bond 1,2 and 4 swirl flaps in the open position on my 93 tid(150) z19dth, as a few guys on here have done, until i can get a new inlet manifold.I previously had to re-stick my swirl bar bar back on but the gunk and fresh oil got so bad around each one i thought i havnt got much to loose by doing this, didnt notice much of a diff after, if anything it seems to pull a bit cleaner through the rev range.
Only thing i noticed when cleaning the swirl tops they seemed to be able to spin all the way round which i didnt think is suppose to happen? But should be ok untill i can renew

Unplug the egr as well, although it will bring on the emissions light it will not cause any poor running... this will put a stop to the soot which is building up in the manifold & eventually it will clean up, i used carb cleaner through the inlet as well to aid the cleaning up process.
I can confirm my motor pulls like a train all the way through the rev range.

Yeh i blanked the egr the other day, thinking of disconnecting the actuator linkage and bonding number 3 swirl aswell. When you say you used carb cleaner did you spray via throttle body while holding revs? As it sounds like a good idea

No pics soz fella, i think theres a few somewhere on the forum just search it, it is quite fiddly to do,and when i finished blobbing it round each one it didnt look to pretty either but at least it worked, i used metal putty just make sure you clean them as good as you can first

My swirls (1,2,4) have been glued open for about 10k miles now. The EGR is still connected and functioning. Car does 2 x 30 mile trips per day, mainly dual carriageway. Inlet manifold is original and has done 137k miles now. Drives like new and pulls like a train

    thanks for the tip.

Did you notice that sometimes when cruising at lower speeds the car used to ever so slightly jerk a bit when your swirl flaps were loose? I have on mine when my bar comes off and im assuming its the flaps moving about in transit

It did. But it's like new now.

I will change the inlet manifold when the timing belt is next done, unless it's still running like new

Hoping to get 200k miles from the manifold though

Thats wicked mate, just what i wanted to hear.

My car is definatly lacking power and nowhere near as fast as it used to be when i first got it last september, the funny thing is though i still get excellent MPG so thats the reason why ive left it so long(about 3 months ago i noticed the bar was off)

My EGR valve is goosed as when i push the punger in at feels like it greating and it sticks sometimes....i have taken it apart and cleaned it the propper way but its still not right.

Did you get any smoke when pulling away before you fixed your manafold?
