    Default Camping recommendations

Last summer we bought ourselves a nice family tent, with the growing family we cant afford hotel holidays anymore and camping seems to be no more than £15-£20 a night even in peak summer.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for places to go camping?

I dont mind uk or europe, but if europe i dont want to drive more than 5-6 hours from a ferry port, and preferrably Calais, or an LD lines port, as Brittany Ferries are far too expensive for us to afford to travel with.

We've booked a week in Dorset in July, and a weekend at start of season about 30 miles from home in cornwall, just to get used to my tent.

The wife and I camp every year for our summer holiday. You're spot on by doing a trial run!! Not too far from home so you can iron out any problems and identify what you might be missing or in need of.

Probably the best two holidays we have had were in the Channel Islands.

    Gurnsey: http://www.fauxquets.co.uk/
    Jersey: http://www.campingjersey.com/

Both were 1st class in all respects. We took our bikes and hardly used the car for the two weeks we were at each one.

We also had a cracking holiday at a small campsite just outside Bodmin - Very basic but it suited us and the elderly couple who ran it were so nice and accomodating - but that was because they were real cornishmen - perhaps i am biased as i am a cornishman too!!

We first started with basics, but found that an electric hookup really was so much more comfortable. Sorry to say, but we now camp with a small fridge, kettle, toaster and a light!! But we are very comfortable.

    Hope this helps some

Why not join the Caravan and Camping club, they have their own sites which are cheaper then normal camp sites.

The Lake District is a beautiful place, I spend a lot of time there. Plenty or walking and messing about in the lakes.

Although I cannot guarantee the weather, there are lakes there for a reason!!

Depends on how far you want to travel. There are some really good sites all around the country. Caravan and Camping club is a good source of information.

I too love abit of camping and can't wait for the weather to pick to so we can start going again. As for campsite recomendations, it purely depends what type of camping you enjoy. If you like a peaceful place with beautiful views anywere in the lake district is fantastic, we go to 'Hollows farm' in keswick every year without fail and absolutly love it, its as basic as they come but non the less a fantastic little campsite.

Blue dolphin in scarbrough is good but often full of rowdy W******

check out www.ukcampsite.co.uk some good reviews on there

This is where i've found both of my above mentioned sites. Am hoping to get a few weekends in, not far from home, just for the two little'ns to get all the fresh air, and outdoors. Load the car up on a thursday night, Finish work at 4 on a friday, go home pick the mrs and kids up and go places not too far away, just for the fresh air, and then aim to go further away a couple of times through the summer.
