Default You can tell the end of the tax year is coming

I've never seen so many ANPR operations in one week...

Started off in Airdrie and there are two teams working on Carlisle Road (just within the 30mph limit)
The ANPR car was sitting further along at Bartletts

The following day and the team is now in Ayr Town Centre (next to racecourse)
The ANPR car was sitting just before the Tesco store
Sat across from them at the racecourse for an hour
One Taxi driver with incorrect insurance and one bald tyre
One HGV, driver with incorrect driving categories

A few hours later and another team is on the A77 at Rickarton

The following day and the team from Ayr Town Centre are now at East Kilbride

Last night they were on the M8, with five cars, and using the recently installed Pips Cameras

Yes, as is typical at the end of the local authority financial year
The local authority coffers are low
The Police are then roped into additional fund raising, but making sure it is not ring-fenced offences
Then try and issue as many FPN for such offences (tyres, lights, seatbelts, mobile phone, etc)
Using ANPR is just an excuse to stop the vehicle in the first place (as new procedures now require an offence to have been committed, officers can no longer stop vehicles for "random vehicle check purposes")

See above If fines are being issued, there's clearly just-cause. Personally, i think there needs to be more of these campaigns as there is far too many un-roadworthy/un-taxed/un-insured vehicles out there that most of them slip the net. I say get them off the road.

Fines go to the DVLA not the Local Authority.

I pay my insurance, tax and have a MOT, so should everybody else who drives on the public highways. Infact, I beleive they should have more of the vans out and about. Things would be cheaper if there wasnt tax dodgers.

If it gets uninsured/taxed and/or dangerous cars off the road then good on them.

The money could be spent on doughnuts for all I care.
