It won't be the chain that's at fault if the engine runs fine at speed. More likely to be coil pack, spark plug or water temperature sensor.

Get the cam cover off and check the timing mate. Have you done the simple things first re your idle like clean the throttle body?

i replaced all them mate, even egt sensor, battery, turbo, full service. its costing a fortune to find this problem and it gives no codes either to just make me scratch my head even more...

yeah to a fashion i cleaned it, i used intake cleaner but when i tried to do it properly it didnt like it . the butterfly plate went loose and put it in limp mode until i cleared code and drove it and it reset its position.
we also did compression test and 2 cylinders read 9.5 and 2 read 11

I have the same exact symptoms on my 2004 Vectra with Z20NET. I haven't done anything else than basic maintence inc. changing oils(engine, gearbox) and filters(air, fuel).

I have ordered new thermostat and CTS sensor. I hope the CTS sensor fixes the stutter problem.

Stutter seems to be more "there" when engine is cold but not in raised rpms.
