    Default Anoying knocking from rear!

I know there are loads of threads about knocking noises on people cars, but here is another one.

When driving my 04 Signum there is sometimes a slight knocking noise from the rear driver side. I got the wife to drive the car while I jumped around in the back with my head in the boot. The noise is definitely coming from the read driver side wheel arch. (A friend said a while back that he could hear a noise from there when I drove past him slowly).

The noise doesn't sound very loud, kind of like tapping a piece of metal on some plastic..... nothing as noisy as my front ARB bushes I need to change (squelchy crunch)

After reading a few threads on here, I have tried a few things. Rocking the wheel....no play in it. I jacked it up, removed wheel, tried wobling various parts and checked the break pads for play....couldn't really see anything amiss.

Anyway. When I put the car back on it's wheels, I tried lifting the rear of the car by grabbing the wheel arch. When I lift and then drop the driver side rear, there is a kind of squelchy noise, sounds a little bit like my suspected ARB bushes on the front. The passenger rear side makes no noise.

Could this squelchy noise be the same thing that is making the knocking noise I can hear from the inside?

    Thanks for any help

    Little update....

Just went outside again with a friend so I could get him to lift and drop the car while I listened and tried to pinpoint the noise. We couldn't get the car to squelch or knock!

Not sure if this info will help anyone point me in the right direction or not

99% chance it's rear banana arms

Mine where shot but even when I rocked the top
Of the wheel there was no noise

Stand behind your car and look at the angle of the rear wheel , if it looks like there's camber on them ( in at the top ) itll be you banana arms

Just went out to check. Camber seems OK.

I was planning on changing the banana arms and rear ARB bushes along with the front ARB bushes and drop links. These all seem very common problems on these cars.

Also, if anyone can help, I tried to look for the size of the ARB bushes on them, but they didn't have anything on them. I used a vernier calliper around the ARB and measured 25.5 on the front and 17.75 on the rear. Does this mean I buy the 25.2mm ones for the ront and the 17mm ones for the back?

Jimbo, If I am going to the trouble of changing stuff on the rear, should I change the lot? ARB bushes, control arms and drop links. The parts don't seem that expensive and at least I know everything at the rear is good

I just drove the car again with the window open. You can clearly hear the noise, it is a kind of clattering/knocking noise. I think I'll change the whole lot, ARB bushes, arms and drop links on the rear.

I had a knock from the rear of my car after I had bought it, took everything out the boot and still knocking, the garage changed the drivers side banana arm and it still knocked they then put new rear shocks on and it sorted it,

I think it may be the brake pad rattling, I have read a lot of people on here with the same problem. It seems to stop when I lift the hand brake a couple of clicks, but I'm getting a friend to ride in the back later to confirm, as the hand brake warning alarm makes it hard to be 100% sure.
