Default Plug in boxes for 3.2 engine?

I've seen the diesel boys raving about their plug in boxes and I'm wondering if anyone does anything similar for the 3.2 petrol engine. I'd like a remap, but the car's still in warranty and I don't want Vauxhall turning theri nose up at any warranty claim due to a remap. I figured if I got a plug in box I can remove it whenever the car needs to visit the stealer.

You could always fork out for the VXR remap - wouldn't affect your warranty...

Most of the remaps I've looked at claim to be virtually undetectable, but even so most of the companies offer a free 'return to standard' offer just in case.

Probably best to PM spoons - he seems to be on first name terms with the staff at VXR Performance Centre

Is there anything special about the petrol engines that mean tuning boxes don't work with them? I'm just curious as to why the petrol's only have the remap option whereas diesels have the tuning boxes too. I realise one's petrol and one's diesel before anyone gives that smarta**e answer

To quickly reply, desiels work by igniting the fuel when it reaches a certain compression. The fuel uses whatever air is in the cylinder to burn. A petrol uses a spark plug and the air to fuel ratio is critical to ensure that the fuel ignites at the right time, not before ie not using the spark plug.

To this end diesels have a big air to fuel ratio as standard, ie lots more air than is required. This allows for the boxes that will chuck in more fuel by upping the pressure through the injectors, giving a better air to fuel ratio and hence more power.

    hope this helps

Cheers for that. Surely there's a way to have a remap in a plug in box though? ie. have the car remapped, but with the map going on a chip in the plug in box that overrides the ECU signals. I'm sure I remember reading about something like that years ago.
