    Default Engine light on

    Help / Advice needed.
Done my service yesterday but noticed my engine light was still on , now the only thing i may have done wrong was to disconnect the slider connection to the airbox so i had more room to work. Would that cause the light to appear, the slider was all connected back up ,

How can i knock this light off ??
The car is still running as normal, no power loss or limp mode.......

Only i can screw up a car by fitting a new air filter

Engine? Chances are you've just given the MAF a bit of a knock. If the car runs fine it should reset itself

Mine did the same after I replaced my filter on a 1.9 120.
It cleared itself after about 50 miles or so.

I'm guessing that the ECU learns to adapt to a crap filled filter so adjusts everything else (My airbox was like an owls nest). When you put a fresh filter in, that balance is upset - hence the light.

Of course, I could be talking utter bollox, but that's my 2 cents.

its a good idea to disconnect the ecu when doing a service and leave it disconnected for at least an hour- longer if possible, that way it loses all the bad habits it learned while dealing with cruddy oil and filters. it'l then relearn its parameters much quicker when you start driving it. its best to start it and let it warm up to temp before taking it on a free flowing run for 20 miles or so after doing this.

As above, you have disconnected the MAF Sensor
As mentioned before, this is an easy and good method to test Safe Mode
You then switch the engine off and reconnect the MAF Sensor
The are then a few ways to disable Safe Mode now :
remove the key and wait two hours
    or
restart the engine three times and wait 3 minutes between each cycle (the warning light will stay on though)
