Default Hi there, i`ll be looking for a vectra this morning

Hello there, i currently own a 1.9 astra diesel sri 150, and i had it up for sale but i`ve no luck so i`ll be tradin it in, i`m lookin at the 1.8 sri vectras around 2002-2005, not the vvt`s tho, dependin what i can get for mine, after the problems i`ve had with the 1.9 diesel engine and the money i have spent its time to go back to petrol, i know the 1.8`s are really good, as a mate of mine had a cavalier 1.8 and the engine out lasted the bodywork, anyway apart from the obivious is there anythin else to look out for, oh and my first car will be a 1.8 estate to look at today, with about 70,000 miles on the clock, my other half has told me to avoid the high miler ones ie the ones with over 100,000 miles on the clock, so hopefully i`ll have a vectra before i go back to work

The 1.8 appears from this forum to be the most reliable, there are loads around for sale so its possibly to be fussy. I'm collecting a 1.8 on Wednesday myself, and having searched around internet, I struggled to find a bad owner review. The one I've bought has only done 30k, on a 58 reg, and I'm paying 5k which to me is a bargain for a 3 1/2 yr old car with so much equipment as standard.

    I am the opposite ,

I'm trying to sell my 2.2 Design petrol

    and

    Really want a 1.9 diesel ( 150 ) Vectra .

In this climate , it's odd you can't sell a Diesel Astra .

is it a high miler or rough condition ?

Z18XE timing belt is 60K or 6 years so just check for documented proof of this being done. Thermostat failure is the only other thing to really look out for. If its not sitting at 85 after 10 minutes of normal running it needs changing but not a big job or expense. Just check for normal things like broken springs and knocking from the rear upper control arms.

It's not odd he can't sell a diesel, there's been a shift back to people opting for petrol cars with the increased diesel costs, an average person needs be doing 23000 now for a diesel to work out worthwhile and to just break even on fuel cost alone. That's without factoring additional retail price of diesel cars, higher servicing costs etc

its in pretty good condition for the year, its done 111,000 miles so far, and apart from the few stone chips, usual bolster bit wearing down on the drivers seat, its a good car i`ve spent quite a bit on it, ie clutch, dmf, bearing for first and second gear, new aircon rad matrix and new starter motor, its been a good car but to be honest, my job is only a six mile trip, 12 round trip every day and its more stop/start trips too so, to be fair its costin me more to keep than petrol, plus with having two kids and could be growin yet, the astra feels a little small now

how do you work that out???? diesel works out 15% better than petrol unless its all 2 miles at a time cold driving- then its about evens.

if you've got a diesel thats had the niggles ironed out why would you want to go to petrol???
