    Default First Direct

Anyone on here with First Direct?

I've been with em for years and recently they've announced that there gonna start charging low value accounts. (£10 per month)

Missus is furious and has started to arrange a new account with HSBC (She has he personal accounts there I have mine in FD)...Having read the HSBC bumf and First Direct's Bumf I've reckon I won't get charged by First Direct and the interest rate is better. To get a similar interest rate to First Direct, HSBC want £12.50 a month.

Anyone else got thoughts on this?

Yeah I am with FD, and I assume you know they are part of the same group as HSBC, so I cant see the point of changing to them myself anyway, if it works for FD, you can be damn sure HSBC will be one of the first to follow suite.
All you need to do to avoid the charge is have another service, aside from your current account with them, for example a personal loan or credit credit, if you have these anyway, but with someone else, it may well be worth considering moving these to FD rather than move your whole current account somewhere else.
I would have thought you would have been told by now if you were going to be charged or not anyway, I had a letter a couple of weeks ago now telling that if I continued to use the account as I do now I wont be charged.

I see, I know everyone doesn't use/have them, but most people have a credit card, if like me you tend to have one for unexpected emergencies or the occasional internet order rather than to hammer it every week, it is worth considering taking one out, it counts as a second service, and should help you avoid the charge, weather you use it much or not.

I recently took ut a credit card for internet transactions. I decided using the switch card was just stupid.

I don't think I will get charged but their letter says:

    1. If you pay in more than an average £1500 into you account you won't be charged
    2. If you have on average more than £1500 in the account you won't be charged

.....however accounts in joint names and sole names are treated as different customers. Our joint account should be OK....but my sole account is my weekly pocket money account and could be liable..but the credit card may deflect that.

They should write and say we will charge you this much OR we're not charging...

It's just annoying that after 12 years or so of good service while they were flying the "we're the fair bank", no charges etc, etc, etc, they bounce this out. FD were a safe bet for not getting messed about....now it seams that bastion is going!

So as long as your wages are being paid in per month and they are greater than £1500 then you're cool yeah?

but if your wages go into one account (say Mr CDTI) and you have a second account under a differnet name (Joint names included - so Mrs CDTI or Mr & Mrs CDTI) that does not recieve £1500 pm or have 1500 saved up then that account will be charged.
