    Default 90w/100w bulbs

    Hello!

As per title, are there any GREAT risks to running bulbs with the above wattage?

    Cheers, Dave

Theirs a chance can overload the wiring. And heat can melt connector/ headlight.

I've run 80w bulbs in all my cars an had no problems

Cheers Critch, I have heard that. I was also looking at the 'all-weather' rainbow bulbs. I ran these in a reflector lens and they were very pretty, but have no idea what they'd look like in the projector lens.

Don't forget that since the beginning of this year, police have been clamping down on illegal headlights (mainly badly fitted HID kits). I've read several accounts of people seeing people being pulled for 'excessively bright headlights' and fined.

However, I assume you're talking about main beam, which you wouldn't have on anyway if there were any other road users about to see them.

You could however end up being seen by Road Policing, as they hide out of view and observe passing vehicles at night

So, in answer to original q, yes, overloading the wiring and getting knicked for illegal bulbs!

I can testify to the overloading issue (posted before)
Attended a burnt out vehicle on the M74, eventually traced to uprated dipped headlamp bulbs
Equally the insurance company weren't impressed!

If you want brighter main beam, consider fitting additional driving lights. Unfortunately I know the Vectra doesn't lend itself to it in the same way as a 4x4 or 1980s's car (Escort with four 8" Cibies in a pod anyone?), but it's a possibility. You can legally run 100W bulbs in auxiliary driving lights, but not in your obligatory headlights.

Cough, try Philips Vision Plus bulbs
For all the extra time spent on main beam, the roads seem to be that busy at night now I hardly seem to use main beam
